- Some of these routers are locked by the previous ISP. You will need to log in to your web management interface and check if there is a VLAN option in your WAN settings, and if you can enable it. If you can change that setting, you should be able to use it with ISPs that require VLAN, such as Simply Broadband.
- If you cannot change VLAN options, in this case, you will need a different router to connect to Simply Broadband.

Step-by-step guide to set up Netcomm NF18ACV-TP router
Physical connection:
- Connect the WAN port of the NetComm NF18ACV-TP router to the first port (LAN1 or GE1) on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) using an ethernet cable.
- Sometimes we connect to second port instead of first - check your Welcome email instructions to make sure which port you should use.
- Ensure the router is powered on and that your computer or smartphone is connected to the router via Wi-Fi or a LAN cable.
- Open a web browser on a connected device and enter
192.168.20.1(or192.168.1.1) into the address bar. - Log in using the default credentials:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin (or check the router label for default credentials)
- If you have changed the default credentials and cannot remember them, proceed to step 8 for resetting the router.
Once logged in, you may be prompted to complete the Quick Start Wizard. Follow these steps to set up the internet connection type:
- Under Internet Service select: Ethernet WAN (step 1).
- For Connection Type select Dynamic IP (step 2).
- Enter VLAN settings: (step 3).
- 802.1P = 0
- VLAN Tag = 10
- Click Next (step 4).
You will be prompted to configure your Wireless settings:
- You can change your Wireless settings if you wish: (optional)
- Network Name (SSID).
- WiFi Password.
- Click Next (step 1).
You will be prompted to enter you Phone Settings, as we do not provide phone service with our connection you can just skip this part.
- Click Next (step 1).
You will need to set New Login details (admin panel/ admin credentials):
- Set your New Login Name (step 1).
- Set your New Login Password (step 1).
- Confirm your New Login Password (step 1).
- Click Next (step 2).
You will need to set the Time Zone:
- Set your Time Zone to (GMT+12:00) Auckland, Wellington (step 1).
- Click Next (step 2).
- Click Finish (step 1).
- Once logged in, follow these steps to set up the internet connection type:
- Navigate to Internet (step 1).
- Click on ETH WAN or Create New (step 2).
- Set Internet Service to:
- Ethernet WAN (step 3).
- Set Connection Type to:
- Dynamic IP (DHCP) (step 4).
- Configure VLAN to the following: (step 5).
- 802.1P = 0
- VLAN Tag = 10
- Set Internet Service to:
- Click on ETH WAN or Create New (step 2).
- Navigate to Internet (step 1).
- Click Update to save configuration.
- After entering the VLAN and DHCP settings, click Update to save the configuration.
- The router may restart to apply the new settings. Wait a few minutes for the restart to complete.
- Once the router has restarted, check the status of your internet connection by looking at the WAN/Internet LED indicator on the router. It should be solid green.
- On your connected device, try accessing a website to confirm that your connection is active.
If your internet connection is not working:
- Restart both the ONT and the router by unplugging them for 30 seconds and plugging them back in.
- Double-check the VLAN and DHCP settings in the router’s configuration.
- Ensure that the ethernet cable is securely connected to the correct ports (first port on the ONT and the WAN port on the router).
If you cannot access the router due to forgotten login credentials or misconfiguration, reset the router to factory settings:
- Find the reset button at the back of the router.
- Press and hold the reset button for about 10-15 seconds using a pin or paperclip.
- Release the button once the router’s lights start flashing. The router will reboot and return to factory settings.
- Log in using the default credentials (admin/admin) and repeat the configuration process from Step 2.

To configure without the Quick Start Wizard follow instruction below:
- Click the 3 lines in the top right (step 1).

- Click into Internet (step 1).

- You will need to create a new configuration profile under Current Connections:
- Click Create New (step 1).

Configure your settings to match below:
- Set a Description (step 1).
- Set Internet Service to Ethernet WAN (step 2).
- Set Connection Type to Dynamic IP (step 3).
- Configure VLAN Settings as follows: (step 4).
- 802.1P = 0
- VLAN Tag = 10
- Click Apply (step 5).

- After entering the VLAN and DHCP settings, click Ato save the configuration.

- Select eth4/eth4 (step 1).
- Click Next (step 2).

- For WAN Service Configuration set to IP over Ethernet (step 1).
- You can set a Service Description to what you want (I have entered Simply Broadband).
- Configure VLAN Settings (step 2):
- 802.1P = 0
- 802.1Q VLAN ID = 10
- Set Network Protocol Selection to IPv4 Only (step 3).
- Click Next (step 4).

- Under WAN IP Settings select Obtain IP address automatically (step 1).
- Click Next (step 2).

Under Network Address Translation Settings make sure to configure as follows:
- Tick Enable NAT (step 1).
- Tick Enable Fullcone NAT (step 2).
- Tick Enable Firewall (step 3).
- Click Next (step 4).

- Click Next (step 1).

- Select Select DNS Server Interface from available WAN interfaces (step 1).
- Click Next (step 2).

- Click Apply/ Save to complete setup (step 1).

- After entering the VLAN and DHCP settings, click Update to save the configuration.
