Things to consider when connecting your device directly to the ONT
- It is very rare that you would need to plug your device directly into the ONT. This is usually done for testing purposes.
- You can configure your device so that you can have internet access.
- This does not mean that you will have WiFi, this will only allow internet access on your specific device!
- You will still need a router to get WiFi operational.
Step-by-step guide to set up VLAN Tagging on your Windows device
1. Connect your device to the ONT
Physical connection:
- Connect to an Ethernet port to the first port (LAN1 or GE1) on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT).
- Sometimes we connect to second port instead of first - check your Welcome email instructions to make sure which port you should use.
- Ensure that all devices are powered on and connected correctly.
2. Setup VLAN settings on your device

To change the VLAN settings on your router:
- Go to Network & Internet > Advanced Settings (step 1).
- Locate your Network Adapter: (step 2).
- Under More adapter options:
- Select Edit (step 3).

- Press configure.

- Navigate to the Advanced tab and you will see all the network settings: (step 1).
- Make sure that VLAN & Priority (step 2) is Enabled (step 3).
- Navigate to VLAN ID (step 4).

- Make sure to configure VLAN ID as follows: (step 1).
- Make sure that it is Enabled (step 2).
- Value = 10 (step 3).
- Click OK (step 4).
3. Verify the internet connection

- Once configured, check the status of your internet connection by looking at your Network and Internet settings, check that you are connected to the Network (should look something like the image below):

- On your connected device, try accessing a website to confirm that your connection is active.
4. Troubleshooting (if needed)
If your internet connection is not working:
- Restart both the ONT and your device by powering down for 3 minutes and then power everything back on.
- Double-check the VLAN settings on your device settings in the router’s configuration.
- Ensure that the ethernet cable is securely connected to the correct ports (first port on the ONT and the WAN port on the router).
5. Reset the router (if required)
If you cannot access the internet due to misconfiguration, reset configuration in your Network adapter settings:
- Navigate back to your Network adapter's configuration and set to defaults.
- You will need to reconfigure all settings in order to get internet connection.
