CAUTION:
Some of these routers are locked by the previous ISP. To check if yours is locked, ensure that you can edit interfaces on the Internet Settings page. If there are no Edit, Delete, or Add buttons available, your router is locked and cannot be used with ISPs that require different network configurations.
Unfortunately, in this case, you will need a different router to connect to Simply Broadband.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Connect Your Router to the ONT
- Connect the Router to the ONT:
- WAN Connection:
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect the WAN (blue) port on the Huawei HG659 router to the first port on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT).
- Power On:
- Plug the router into a power source and ensure it is turned on.
- Wait for the router to fully power up. The LED indicators should stabilize, indicating a successful power-on.
- WAN Connection:
- Connect Your Device:
- Wired Connection:
- Connect your computer or laptop directly to one of the LAN (yellow) ports on the router using an Ethernet cable for a stable connection during setup.
- Wireless Connection:
- Alternatively, connect to the router’s Wi-Fi network using the default Wi-Fi credentials found on the sticker at the bottom of the router (SSID and password).

2. Access the Router’s Admin Panel
- On your connected device, open any web browser (e.g., Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge).
- In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.1.254 if your router from Spark).
- Login using the default credentials:
- If your router from Spark:

- If your router from Vodafone or other ISP:

- If you do not know the login credentials, reset the router by pressing the Reset button on the back for about 10 seconds until the router restarts.

3. Navigate to Internet Settings
- Once logged in, locate and click on the Internet tab in the top navigation menu.

4. Configure the ETH (Fiber) Interface

- In the Internet section, find the ETH interface (it may be labeled as INTERNET_ETH or INTERNET_ETH_VID or similar).
- Click on Edit next to the ETH connection to open the configuration settings.


5. Enter the Internet Settings

- Enter the Required Settings:
- Connection Type: Select DHCP (Dynamic IP).
- VLAN ID: Enter 10.
- VLAN Priority: Set to 0.
- MTU: Ensure it is set to 1500.
- IP Protocol Version: Choose IPv4 + IPv6.
- DNS: Set to Automatic.

6. Save and Apply Settings
- After entering all the settings, click
Save
orApply
to store the changes. - The router may prompt you to reboot. If so, allow it to restart to apply the new settings.
7. Verify the Internet Connection
- Check Connection Status:
- After the router restarts, log back into the admin panel if necessary.
- Navigate to the
Internet
orSystem Information
section to check the connection status. It should indicateConnected
.
- Test Connectivity:
- Open a web browser and try accessing any website to confirm that your Internet connection is active and working properly.
8. Troubleshooting (If Needed)
If you encounter issues with the Internet connection, follow these troubleshooting steps:
- Restart Devices:
- Power Cycle:
- Unplug both the ONT and the Huawei HG659 router from the power source.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Plug the ONT back in first and wait for it to fully initialize.
- Then, plug the router back in and wait for it to reboot.

- Ensure that the VLAN ID is set to
10
and VLAN Priority to0
. - Verify that Connection Type is set to
DHCP (Dynamic IP)
. - Confirm that MTU is set to

- Ensure that the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the WAN (blue) port on the router and the first port on the ONT.

- Ensure that your device is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network and that the password is entered correctly.
- Try connecting via an Ethernet cable to rule out wireless issues.
9. Reset the Router (If Required)
If you cannot access the admin panel due to forgotten login credentials or other configuration issues, perform a factory reset:
- Locate the Reset Button:
